BMS fall sports awards


The Batesville Middle School athletic teams experienced success at all levels during the 2009-10-fall season.

There was individual and team growth that earned county, conference, and state recognition. Batesville Middle School fielded teams in cross country, football, volleyball, and cheerleading.

Coaches Thomas Barnett and Lisa Gausman once again set the bar high for future teams by fielding a cross country team that boasted 32 runners from grades 6-8.

Coach Barnett reported that the exiting eighth grade boys helped post a team record of 108-6 and the girls 114-1 over the past three years.

During the 2009 season, both boys and girls team were South Dearborn Invitational champions, Ripley County champions, and EIAC champions. The girls were Greensburg Invitational champions, while the boy's team was runner-up. At the state levels, the 2009 girls finished third overall in the small school division, while the boys finished eighth.

Individually both boys and girls collected numerous individual honors. Grace Yeaton established a new home course record by running an impressive 11:12 time on the BMS home course.

All Ripley County recipients included Sarah Billingsley, Rachel Billingsley, Grace Yeaton, Samantha Grote, Lauren Eckstein, Molly Weigel, Garrett Yorn, Nick Vodzak, Trent Barnett, Jake Roper, Conner Bell, and Wes McKinney. All EIAC recipients were Sarah Billingsley, Rachel Billingsley, Yeaton, Eckstein, Grote, Yorn, Vodzak, Barnett, and Roper. Earning All State status were Sarah Billingsley, Rachel Billingsley, Yeaton, and Vodzak.

At the reserve level, Alec Giesting (South Dearborn and county), Bailey Lynch (county), Cole Nuhring ( Greensburg), and Jacob Adley (EIAC) all recorded first place finishes during the season.

Award winners were:Sarah Billingsley, Rachel Billingsley and Vodzak (Bulldog), Barnett and Eckstein (Most Improved). Yeaton and Yorn were the low point winners.

The seventh football team posted a 5-4 overall record.

Award winners for the seventh grade included Evan Blanken (Bulldog), Wyatt Schebler (Best Offensive Back), Peter Heil (Best Offensive Lineman), Will Amberger (Best Defensive Back), and Jacob Kessens (Best Defensive Lineman).

The eighth grade team finished the 2009 season with an overall record of 1-8.

Eighth grade awards were presented to Ben Westerfeld (Bulldog), Clayton McKinley (Best Offensive Back), Noah Gausman (Best Offensive Lineman), Colin Brown (Best Defensive Back), and Graham Hunter (Best Defensive Lineman).

The seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams experienced success during the 2009 fall season.

The seventh grade team was coached Megan Weber and finished with a 9-8 record.

Seventh grade award winners included Brooke Bradford (Bulldog), Allison Linkel (Most Improved) and Katie Thomas (high point server).

The eighth grade team finished with a record of 11-6 and was coach Abby Weberding.

The award winners are, Alaina McPherson (Bulldog), Monica Bedel (Most Improved), and Rylee Goldsmith (high point server).

The Batesville Middle School cheerleading squad was coached by Malena Smith.

Award winners were Rebecca Gabbard (eighth grade Bulldog and Bailey Collins (seventh grade Bulldog).
