Sen. Lugar announced Nov. 1 that applications are being accepted for internship positions in each of his Senate offices. Offices are located in Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Valparaiso and Washington, D.C.
“Students who gain field experience from internships are better prepared for jobs after graduation,” said Lugar. “I value the Hoosier students who intern in my offices and the fresh perspectives they offer me and my staff each semester. Interns are a valuable component to our office operations and I am pleased to offer a variety of internship experiences for students interested in public service.”
Washington, D.C.: Students who intern in the Washington, D.C. office will maintain a dual internship between Senator Lugar’s personal office and Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff. Interns will have opportunities to attend committee hearings, work with staff regarding legislative issues, research proposed initiatives, lead tours of the Capitol building, and conduct administrative tasks.
Indianapolis: Internships based in the Indianapolis office work with constituent services staff regarding areas such as education, energy issues, veterans affairs, immigration, Social Security, special projects and press. Students will attend events with the Senator and staff members, as well as participate in community outreach.
Regional Offices: Occasional regional office internships are available and offer a variety of experiences ranging from community outreach, special events, and constituent services. Interns in regional offices also assist with administrative duties and leave with a full understanding of the operations in a Senate office. Internships are available for college course credit and are located in our Evansville, Fort Wayne and Valparaiso offices.
Applicants should have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and have completed their freshman year at an accredited college or university. Students from all academic disciplines are encouraged to apply. All internships are available for college course credit and schedules are flexible to work with individual student needs.
