The Batesville Lady Bulldogs had not scored more than 39 points in their last three games.
Simply, points have not been easy to come by lately.
The Lady Bulldogs definitely showed improvement Tuesday night against the Lawrenceburg Lady Tigers.
Coach Matt Maple’s squad recorded its fourth win of the season with a 49-29 victory over the visiting Lady Tigers.
The Lady Bulldogs had balanced scoring throughout, but it was a good defensive effort in the second quarter that was a key.
The Lady Bulldogs led 12-7 at the end of the first quarter and then held Lawrenceburg to only two in the second to stretch the lead to 25-9 at halftime.
Consistent play over the final two quarters helped preserve the victory.
Brooke Rohlfing was 8-of-11 from the field and 1-of-1 from the free throw line for a team-high 17 points. Madi Oesterling and Bailey Baumer were second on the team in scoring with eight points apiece. Alyssa Dudley was the team’s top rebounder with six boards, while Baumer dished out eight assists.
As a team, the Lady Bulldogs were 21-of-35 shooting from the field and 7-of-11 from the charity stripe.
The varsity squad improved to 4-2 on the season, while the Lady Tigers fell to 2-3,
The Batesville junior varsity was a 37-30 winner over the Lady Tigers.
Tied 10-10 at the end of the first quarter, Batesville took a six point lead by halftime. The Lady Tigers countered in the third quarter to knot the score at 24-24.
A 13-point fourth quarter proved to be more than enough when the final horn sounded.
Shelby Rupp and Kelsey Forbeck led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with eight points each. Samantha Heidlage was next in line with seven. Rupp also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.
