--- — It is something a little different from what they are accustomed to running. But the Oldenburg Academy girls cross country team adapted pretty well. The Lady Twisters and 11 other teams competed in the Richmond Invitational, which is considered a European-style race. “The kids jumped over hay bales and into water ... a slow course,” OA coach Merle Hines commented. It did not slow them down when it came to the final results. The Lady Twisters finished with a team score 56 points to better second placing Southport High School by 17. Mt. Vernon was third with 107 points followed by Marion with 116. Oldenburg Academy was led by Ann Kuntz in third place with a time of 21:00 and Sarah Billingsley in eighth with a mark of 21:47. Bridget Bruns and Rachel Billingsley also placed in the top 15 overall. Bruns was 11th with a time of 22:02, while Billingsley was one place back in 22:04. Maria Riehle was 22nd overall for the Lady Twisters with a time of 23:03. Ellen Owens rounded out the OA runners in 84th place. Kara Purvis of Greenfield-Central was the individual winner of the race in a time of 20:28. Southport’s Emily Odle was second in 20:51. OA boys place ninth at Richmond The Twisters were ninth place finishers in the 14-team field at the Richmond Invitational. Oldenburg finished the day with a team score of 257 points. Mt. Vernon claimed the team title with 50 points followed by Marion with 94. Luke Owens was the top runner for the Twisters. Owens crossed the finish line in 25th place and a time of 19:16. Andrew Newton was second on the team in 42nd place with a time of 19:54. Other runners for the Twisters included Austin Frey (53rd), Lucas Nare (66th), Mark Brunsman (71st), Luke Hammoor (89th) and Isiah Frey (90th).
