The Batesville High School junior varsity football team suffered a 27-16 loss Monday night to the visiting East Central Trojans.
The Bulldogs got out to a fast start. Connor Dickey returned the opening kick 75 yards for a touchdown. Quarterback Ben Wilson completed a pass to Neal Nobbe for the two-point conversion and Batesville had a 8-0 lead.
The Trojans scored twice in the second quarter and took a 13-8 lead into halftime.
After giving up a touchdown on the opening drive of the third quarter, the Bulldogs struggled to hold onto the ball and turned it over twice.
The second miscue led to points by the Trojans. The lead grew to 27-8 early in the fourth quarter.
Batesville countered with the final score of the game at the 2:45 mark in the fourth quarter. A 6-yard pass from Ben Wilson to Ryan Wilson made it 17-14. Ben Wilson successfully found the end zone on the two-point conversion to narrow the gap to 11 points.
The Bulldogs are now 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference.
