BHS freshmen win titles


The Batesville High School freshman basketball team is two for two.

The Bulldogs captured the annual Ripley County tourney title and followed up with win in the championship game of the Batesville Invitational.

The Bulldogs knocked off Milan 49-25 in the title game of the county tournament.

Batesville led 14-4 at the end of the first quarter and kept it at 10 points by halftime.

Coach Chris Bradford’s squad led 28-17 at the end of the third before putting it away with 21 points over the final six minutes.

Cody Werner led the team with 18 points and five rebounds. Ben Summers was second on the team with 11 points.

The Bulldogs earned a berth in the finals with a 45-20 victory over South Ripley.

Ian Prickel led the way with eight points, three steals and two assists. Mitchell Taylor, Dylan Cook, Nick Wanamaker and Werner each had six points.

The Bulldogs made short work of Shelbyville and Madison to win the invitational.

Batesville improved to 10-2 on the season with a 40-24 win over Madison in the championship game.

Werner had nine points and three rebounds, while Prickel added six points and three steals.

Summers scored 12 points and Taylor had eight as the Bulldogs defeated Shelbyville 38-19 in the first round.

Bulldogs beat

Milan 53-24

The freshman Bulldogs knocked off Milan 53-24 behind a 10 point effort by Cook.

Summers added nine points and Prickel had eight.

The Bulldogs outscored the Indians 19-2 in the first quarter. The lead grew to 21 points by halftime and then 39-15 by the end of the third.



BHS falls to

Jennings Co.

The team’s second loss of the season came to Jennings County by a score of 38-36.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 9-2 first quarter lead, but let it slip to one by halftime.

Taylor scored a team-high 10 points.
