OA girls soccer team wins two

-- — The Oldenburg Academy Lady Twisters made a bit of a statement at the District 5 soccer tournament held Saturday in Columbus.

The Lady Twisters kicked off the season with a 6-0 victory over Jeffersonville and followed up with a 9-2 win over Jennings County.

Oldenburg was able to control the ball most of the first half against Jeffersonville and entered the intermission with a 2-0 lead. Alena  Schuckman scored at the 27-minute mark on an assist by Kirsten Ricke. Ricke scored a goal nine minutes later with the assist going to Gretchen Wilder.

The Lady Twisters had a total of 19 shots in the first half and held Jeff to zero.

Gretchen Wilder, Emma Schulte, Hannah Hanauer and Ella Lamping scored second half goals to put the game well out of reach. Gretchen Wilder and Hanauer each had assists.

The OA defenders did their job protecting the goalie and did not allow a single shot the entire game, according to coach John Enneking.

In the team’s second match, the outcome was never really in doubt.

The first goal came within the opening minute when Hanauer got free on a breakaway, took a shot from the left side and placed it in the upper right corner of the net.

Hanauer scored again less than five minutes later off an assist from Schulte.

After a goal by Gretchen Wilder, Hanauer scored for a third time to put OA on top 4-0.

Senior Lauren Kirschner then scored back-to-back goals to give the Lady Twisters a 6-0 lead at halftime.

The Lady Panthers tallied two unanswered goals early in the second half and cut the deficit to four goals.

Oldenburg regained their composure and scored three more times. Schuckman, Sarah Wilder and Gretchen Wilder each found the back of the net.

The Lady Twisters will again be in action on Saturday when they host the Greensburg Lady Pirates at Gillespie Park.
