-- — The Oldenburg Academy tennis team suffered a season-opening loss Wednesday at Batesville High School.
Trinity Lutheran beat the Twisters by a score of 4-1.
The Twisters were at a disadvantage from the start. Coach Jackie Fitzgerald was forced for forfeit the match at No. 3 singles.
“Walking in with a loss is hard to take, but we just didn't play our best tonight,” she commented. “Two doubles did a nice job of working well together and taking control early.”
Luke Hammoor and Calvin Shenk recorded the team’s lone victory at No. 2 doubles. The OA duo won in straight sets 6-2 and 6-1.
Oldenburg’s Jon Drew, who is forced to play left-handed due to an injury, turned in a solid effort at No. 1 singles. Drew lost 1-6 and 5-7, but got better as the match progressed.
Peter Lamping was defeated in three sets (2-6, 6-3 and 2-6) at No. 2 singles, while Ben Wanstrath and Brent Bohman lost at No. 1 doubles (2-6 and 2-6).
