Twisters fall in overtime to Irvington

A packed house at Oldenburg Academy celebrated homecoming and got to see quite a basketball game on Saturday.

The Twisters and Irvington Ravens needed overtime before a winner was decided in boys varsity action.

The Twisters led early and the Ravens were in control late, but when the horn sounded for the end of regulation it was all tied.

The two teams were knotted at 55-55 through the first 32 minutes.

The Ravens outscored Oldenburg 11-7 in the overtime.

The Twisters led by two points at the end of the first quarter and then by seven at halftime.

Irvington doubled up Oldenburg 20-10 in the third quarter to take a 39-36 lead into the fourth.

Michael Maple led the Twisters in scoring with 18 points, including a trio of 3-pointers.

Jason Strasemeier was second on the team in scoring with 17 points and set a new school record with 16 rebounds.

The old mark for rebounds in a single game was 14, which was held by Benjamin Newton and James Bruns.

One night earlier, the Twisters gave the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles all they could handle.

The host Eagles were 43-40 winners.

Only three players scored for the Twisters. Strasemeier set the pace with 16 points followed by Maple with 13 and Moorman with 11.

Maple and Andrew Newton each had four assists to help set the pace offensively.

The Twisters are now 6-8 on the season.
