Stingrays too much for Milan

The Batesville Stingrays summer swim team made it look easy against the Milan Indians in a dual meet at Batesville Memorial Pool.

Batesville won the meet by a score 986-647 en route to their 71st straight dual meet victory in SEISA competition and 129th overall in conference competition.

“Milan is typically our strongest competition during the summer,” coach T.J. Greene commented. “They have a solid program, so it is a good feeling coming away with a win against them.”

In the process of the victory, several team and pool records were broken at the meet.

The meet began with the girls 18 and under medley relay team of Katie Wanstrath, Chrissy Wanstrath, Meredith Heckman and Audrey Rozman recorded a time of 1:39.02 to break team and pool records, which were set last year by Lizzi Pomeroy, Katie Wanstrath, Blair Dunlevy, and Audrey Rozman (1:40.46).

The 10 and under girls 160 freestyle relay squad of Elizabeth Weiler, Griffon Relford, Emily Weiler and Emily Gutzwiller broke the team record set in 1999 by Freese, Clohessy, Barbera, and Niezer. They swam to a time of 1:47.63, which bettered the previous time of 1:51.16.

Several other individual records were set as well.

Chrissy Wanstrath broke her pool and team record in the 18 and under 80 yard breast stroke (56.05).

Audrey Rozman tied a 2004 record (Niezer) in the 18 and under 40 yard freestyle (46.27).

Bryce Timonera broke a total of eight team and pool records in his events. He set team and pool records in the 14 and under 200 freestyle (1:55.90) and 160 IM (1:43.30). He also posted records in the 18 and under 40 yard freestyle (17.99) and 200 freestyle (1:55.90). Other than the 40 freestyle, Timonera broke his own records in the other six events.

“Over 70 swimmers set personal best times in this meet,” Greene commented. “What a great effort by so many kids.”
