INDIANAPOLIS – It is quite an honor to be named an Indiana All-Star and Batesville High School has been fortunate enough to be represented on six occasions.

The most recent basketball standout to be selected was Colt Ryan.

The University of Evansville-bound star helped spark a second half rally, which led to a 78-65 victory for the Indiana All-Stars over their Kentucky rivals Saturday evening in front of 5,775 people.

Ryan, who was presented with the challenge of coming off the bench, got off to a quiet start as head coach David Wood shuffled players in and out of the game.

When the final horn sounded, only Mr. Basketball Jordan Hulls of Bloomington South had played more minutes.

The Indiana squad got off to a slow start and trailed 19-14 with just under 13 minutes to play in the first half.

Wood’s crew later led by as many as six points only to give it up and trail 37-35 at halftime.

A different line-up took the floor for the beginning of the second half and the changes paid dividends.

Ryan and Cathedral’s Errick Peck led the charge in the second half.

Peck scored in the opening minute to cut the deficit to one point at 37-36.

A blocked shot by Ryan at the defensive end and a hustle play back on offensive paid off as Hulls slipped a pass to the BHS standout for a lay-up. Ryan was fouled on the play and converted the free throw to put Indiana on top 39-37.

It was a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way.

An offensive rebound and putback by Peck followed by a 3-pointer from Ryan gave the Indiana squad a 44-38 lead with 17:03 to play.

A steal by Ryan led to another Peck field goal at the 16:38 mark to make it an eight point game.

Ryan later added another 3-pointer with 8:13 to play to put Indiana out in front 64-53.

Peck finished with 16 points,12 rebounds and three blocked shots to earn the player of the game honors.

Ryan could not have been far behind in the balloting. He was instrumental in the second half charge and finished with 12 points, two assists and two steals in 24 minutes of play.

The boys team followed up one day later with a 64-49 victory at Bellarmine University.

It is the fourth time in past five years the boys team has swept the two-game series. Last year, the two teams each won games at home.

A crowd of 1,869 fans was reported for the event.
