-- — The Oldenburg Academy boys varsity soccer team posted a 5-1 win over the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles on Friday.
It looked like rain all night, but just as it has most of the summer it stayed away.
The Twisters scored five goals and none of them were scored by the forwards. The midfielders had a big night as they controlled the pace of the game, according to coach Ken Getz.
“Sometimes we try and go too fast,” Getz commented. “Tonight they took their time and it paid off.”
Josh Smith had a big night with a pair of goals for the Twisters. Daniel Mullen scored one on a free kick for about 20 yards out. Taylor Reed had the assist on a corner kick that sweeper Ted Geis put in the net.
“Ted (Geis) went up to head the ball but over jumped he said and hit it with his shoulder,” Getz noted. “I tell them all of the time I don’t care how you put it in the net just find a way. “
Zack Gorman, who was standing just over the half line, scored as well for the Twisters. “I believe he was trying to cross the ball, but it kept carrying,” Getz commented. “It hit the cross bar bounced off the keepers back into the goal.”
The OA junior varsity picked up a 2-0 victory in their first outing in two weeks.
Brian Weberding and Jacob Moorman were credited with the goals. Brady Sterchi got his first shutout in the goal.
