The Batesville High School wrestling team came up short in their goal to win the East Central 6-Way, but it was still a good day for coach Mick Reindorf’s crew.
The Bulldogs picked up four wins and one loss to place second. Victories came against Shenandoah (62-11), Cambridge City Lincoln (63-12), Tri (53-6) and Lawrenceburg (49-28). The lone loss came to the host Trojans by a score of 45-26.
“We won six of 11 matches with East Central, but only recorded two pins compared to their four,” Reindorf commented. “East Central has a very good team and we just came up short this time.
“I still feel the conference tournament is up for grabs and we will be in the mix,” he added.
John Moody (106-lbs), Anthony Gartenman (138-lbs), Daniel Howard (182-lbs) and Jarett Hooten (195/220-lbs) were all 5-0 on the day.
Moody and Hooten remain perfect on the season through 20 matches. Moody recorded a team-high nine takedowns during the day. Hooten tallied a pair of pins to bump his team best total to 16 on the season.
Ben Westerfeld, Cody Haakinson, Neal Nobbe and Will Amberger each went 4-1 for the day. Three-time winners for the Bulldogs were Matthew Linkel and Allen Hudepohl.
For the season, Moody and Hooten lead the team in wins with 20. Westerfeld currently has a team-high 39 takedowns.
