-- — The Batesville High School track and field teams hit the road for a three-way meet at East Central.
The BHS boys team placed second to the host Trojans. East Central won the meet with 73 points followed by the Bulldogs with 63 and Greensburg with 25.
The Bulldogs placed first in seven events.
Hayden Merkel led the way with victories in the high jump (6’ 3.25”” and 1,600-meter run (4:31.20). He was also a member of the winning 1,600-meter relay team.
Joining Merkel on the 1,600 relay were Mike Hoeing, Jordan Walsman and Conner Jeffers.
Jeffers added a victory in the long jump (18’ 4.5”), while Hoeing was a winner in the 400-meter dash (53.00).
Other winners for the Bulldogs included Tyler Leising (200-meter dash) and Nick Vodzak (3,200-meter run).
Second place finishers for the Bulldogs were Gunter Jones (300-meter hurdles), Walsman (shot put) and the 400-meter relay team of Andy Nolan, Leising, Jones and Jeffers. The 3,200-meter team of Vodzak, Merkel, Garrett Yorn and Jan Sulaiman placed second as well.
The Lady Bulldogs placed second as well. East Central won the team title with 83 points, while Batesville racked up 66 followed by Greensburg with 12.
Batesville managed to garner six blue ribbons.
Rylee Goldsmith led the way with victories in the high jump (4’ 10.5”) and the 400-meter dash (1:01.6).
Other first place finishers for the Lady Bulldogs included Ginny Westerfeld (100-meter dash), Kelsey Gausman (1,600-meter run), Anna Meyer (800-meter run) and Courtney McCray (discus).
Second place finishers for Batesville were Ali Roper (high jump), Emily Meer (long jump), Ginny Westerfeld (200-meter dash) and the 3,200-meter relay team of Gausman, Hannah Lehfeldt, Liz Cuttle and Meyer. The 1,600-meter relay team of Meer, Madi Oesterling, Andrea Nobbe and Goldsmith placed second as did the 400-meter team of Beth Werner, Whitney McCray, Kelsey Forbeck and Abby Brandt.
