BATESVILLE — The Oldenburg Academy softball team suffered a tough 13-10 loss to the Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles. “Errors are killing us,” commented OA coach Jackie Fitzgerald. “We are getting on base and doing many of the things we should.” The Lady Twisters scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the early lead. Back-to-back one-out singles by Ashley Gramman and Olivia Eckstein set up Oldenburg’s first scoring threat. Megan Roberts then doubled and later scored on a sacrifice by Bailey Grieshop. After giving up five runs to the Lady Eagles in the top of the third, Oldenburg answered with four more runs in the third inning to regain the lead 7-5. Ashlee Masavage, Kate Strasemeier, Gramman, and Eckstein each scored in the inning. A single run by Masavage in the fourth extended the OA lead to 8-5. Jac-Cen-Del scored two times in the fifth to trim the margin to one run. Oldenburg crossed the plate two times in the fifth inning with two outs and held a 10-7 lead. The Lady Eagles scored six runs in the top of the sixth to take their second lead of the game. Unfortunately, the Lady Twisters did not have an answer this time. Oldenburg left runners on base in each of the final two innings. Masavage, Gramman and Eckstein each finished with a team-high three hits and three runs scored. In other games, the Lady Twisters were defeated by Madison 12-1 and South Decatur 22-14. Nora Stacy (2), Masavage (3), Grieshop, Catherine Fiutem, Sarah Gutman (2), Eckstein (2), Strasemeier, and Gramman (2) all scored runs against the Lady Cougars. Stacy scored the team’s lone run against Madison.
