Despite the repeated squeak of the officials’ whistles, the Batesville High School girls varsity basketball team outlasted the visiting Greensburg Lady Pirates Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 10-3 on the hardwood with a 46-38 victory over the Lady Pirates Saturday afternoon.
Coming off a 26-point performance one night earlier, coach Matt Maple wanted improvement on the offensive end and he got it. Batesville scored just 10 points in the first quarter, but nearly matched the previous night’s total with 22 at halftime.
Batesville began the third quarter with a six point advantage. The lead grew to 10 points on field goals by Brooke Rohlfing and Katie Thomas. It hovered around nine for the majority of the third until Greensburg’s Shelby Ward hit a 3-pointer with 1:01 left.
Kelli Hartman answered for the Lady Bulldogs and the quarter ended with BHS in front 34-26.
The Lady Pirates were able to get within two points at 38-36 before the Lady Bulldogs went on a 8-2 run to close out the game.
Rohlfing and Bailey Baumer led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Greensburg’s Taylor McIntosh scored a game-high 20 points.
