The East Central Trojans had their hands full Friday night on the road in Aurora.
The Trojans needed overtime to knock off the South Dearborn Knights 57-54 in boys varsity basketball action.
The game was a contrast in philosophy. The Knights were content with scoring from the perimeter, while the Trojans were satisfied with the more conventional two point goals.
The Knights scored 30 points from beyond the 3-point arc, including 12 of their 14 in the third quarter.
The Trojans made just two long range shots, but were able to score 15 times from inside the arc. They also capitalized on 21-of-26 free throw attempts.
The Knights outscored the Trojans 18-11 in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime.
The game was tied at 44-44 at the end of regulation before the Trojans closed with a 13-10 run in the extra session.
East Central was 9-of-13 from the free throw line in the overtime to help secure the victory.
The Trojans had a balanced scoring attack. Three players finished the night in double figures. Kevin Kidd, who is averaging 18.3 points per game, finished with 19 to lead the way. Cody Kaiser and Logan Jaehnen added 15 and 10 points respectively.
Joel Scudder poured in 23 second half points en route to a game-high 28.
The Trojans followed up one night later with a 76-62 win over Harrison.
Kidd led the way with 36 points, including a 19-of-20 effort from the free throw line.
