Twisters top International for first win of the season

— The Oldenburg Academy boys varsity basketball team picked up its first win of the season.

The Twisters defeated the visiting Indianapolis International Gryphons by a score of 34-28.

The Gryphons, who are winless on the season, struggled to put points on the scoreboard and the Twisters were able to slip out to an 8-2 first quarter lead.

Oldenburg answered with 13 more points in the second quarter as the margin grew to 21-11 by halftime.

Corey Reynolds and Peter Lamping handled most of the scoring in the second half for the Twisters as they were able hold on for the victory. Lamping tallied five of the team’s seven points in the third quarter, while Reynolds had four of the six in the fourth.

Reynolds finished with a game-high 15 points followed by Lamping with seven. Josh Stenger and Ted Geis led the team on the boards with six rebounds apiece.

One night later, the Twisters traveled to Liberty to battle the Union County Patriots.

The Patriots defeated the Twisters by a score of 38-29.

Tied at the end of the first quarter, the host Patriots outscored OA 20-12 over the next two quarters to settle into a comfortable lead. They followed up with an 11-10 edge in the fourth to preserve the victory.

The Twisters were hampered by 24 turnovers in the game.

Stenger led the team in rebounds with eight, while Matty Hurm had a team-best three steals.

The Twisters are now 1-4 on the season.
