The Batesville High School girls Country team narrowly beat Madison and Columbus East to win the Big Blue Invitational at Jennings County
Kelsey Gausman (2nd), Hannah Lehfeldt (5th), and Abbie Krieg (9th) finished in the top 10 to guide the Lady Bulldogs to victory.
Batesville finished with 60 points, which was five better than Madison and 11 ahead of Columbus East.
"It was a good night for all of our runners - varsity and junior varsity,” BHS coach Steve Yeaton commented. “Nine out of our 14 runners had their best times of the season so far.”
Those with personal best times included Lehfeldt, Jordan Lowery, Shelby Coleman, Elizabeth Cuttle, Lauren Eckstein, Breanna Hartman, Sydney Prickel, Kala Spurlock, and Maria Wessel.
Boys team seventh at Jennings County
The Bulldogs finished seventh in the Jennings County Invitational.
Garrett Yorn was the top finisher for the boys in 15th place crossing in a time of 18:35.
Trent Barnett (27th, 19:13), Cole Nuhring (32nd, 19:26), Nick Vodzak (35th, 19:36) and Ian Schmid (40th, 19:49) rounded out the top five for coach Thomas Barnett’s crew.
Calvin Lehman finished in second place in the reserve race in a time of 19:56.
“We had some good individual performances,” Barnett commented. “Though it was not our best team performance, all of our guys improved their times from 30 seconds to 90 seconds on this same course last year.”
