Helen A. Blank, 95

— Helen A. Blank, 95, Batesville, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Margaret Mary Community Hospital.  

Born Feb. 10, 1917, in Hamilton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Rose (Schwier) and Charles “Sandy” Shane.  

She married Robert Blank Aug. 20, 1949, at St. Louis Catholic Church and he preceded her in death March 1, 2009.  

Helen was a longtime secretary and bookkeeper in Cincinnati for publishing companies and a member of the Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, St. Louis Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella and Southeastern Indiana YMCA.  She also was a volunteer at the former Margaret Mary Hospital gift shop.

Helen was a vibrant person who always seemed to wear a smile. A favorite passion for her was golf.  As much as she enjoyed playing, she probably loved the social aspect of it more, according to her family. She had the unique ability to relate to people of all ages and was truly interested in what they had to say. The twinkle in her eyes made her approachable and her great sense of humor made her easy to talk to.  

Bill also recalled his mom’s family’s love of music. She would often harmonize with her siblings while doing dishes, toasting the family or any time they were together. Helen was a devout woman who loved the tranquility of the ocean. The winters she and Bob would spend by the ocean at Myrtle Beach were something she looked forward to each year and provided many fond memories.  

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Debbie Blank, Batesville; sister Carol Gruber, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and grandsons Tony and Ben Blank, Batesville.  

She  also was preceded in death by her son Christopher; sisters Sandy Martin, Lily Schmitt and Betty Bowles; and brother Jim Shane.  

Visitation is Monday, Nov. 26, from 4-7 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home.  Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at St. Louis Catholic Church with the Rev. Randy Summers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Batesville Area Ministerial Association Food Pantry or Southeastern Indiana YMCA.
