Carol A. Erne, 71

— Carol A. Erne, 71, Batesville, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.

Born Jan. 27, 1941, in Cincinnati, she was the daughter of Helen (Boehmer) and Albert Hester. She married Robert Erne June 29, 1963, at St. Aloysius Church, Bridgetown, Ohio.

Although a homemaker for much of her life, she taught two years at St. Ignatius, Cincinnati, and 15 years as a Batesville Community School Corp. substitute teacher.

Carol was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Morris, Red Hatters Club, Batesville Area Historical Society, Friends of the Library and Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary. The avid reader preferred books about English history and biographies. Her taste in movies was  much the same, as anything historical or biographical was on her must-see list.  Carol’s favorite TV program was the series “Lonesome Dove.” Although not a gardener, she loved flowers.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; sons Ted, Louisville, Ky., and Matt Sr. and Rob, Batesville; her mother, Cincinnati; sister Arlene Orth, Cincinnati; brothers Mike and Mark Hester, Cincinnati; grandchildren Matthew Erne Jr., Kamrynn Erne and Courtney Razo; and great-grandchild Dahlia Erne.

In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Norb Hester.

Visitation is Saturday, Dec. 8, from 9-11 a.m. at Weigel Funeral Home. The funeral follows at 11:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Frank Eckstein officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

The family requests memorials to the Batesville food pantry or Ripley County Humane Society.
