BATESVILLE —
Dolores M. Gutzwiller, 87, Batesville, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at St. Andrews Health Campus.
Born Oct. 6, 1925, in Napoleon, she was the daughter of Caroline (Wagner) and Charles Brunner. She married Frank Gutzwiller Oct. 9, 1948, at St. Maurice Church, Napoleon, and he preceded her in death July 6, 1994. She was a homemaker and a former volunteer at Margaret Mary Hospital.
Dolores was a sports nut. She followed Batesville High School sports on the radio, was a Reds fan and an IU fan. Her favorite was basketball. High school, college, pros, it didn’t matter. Many will remember seeing her on her front porch swing probably with a mystery novel in hand. Other outdoor hobbies included mowing her yard on her John Deere rider and raising a vegetable garden. Although she didn’t particularly like to cook, her kids loved her meals. Chicken continental was a favorite with them, but because Mom made it from memory, they haven’t been able to find any written directions to re-create her dish. Other things Dolores liked include bike riding in her younger years, a cold beer, peanuts, popcorn and bacon, along with the TV shows “Gunsmoke,” “Bonanza,” “Andy Griffith Show,” “M.A.S.H.” and the new “Family Feud.” Something she didn’t like was change. What she truly loved was spending time with her family reminiscing and passing on the family stories to the younger generations.
Dolores is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Cindy and William Leising, Batesville, Donna and Donald Nickerson, Apopka, Fla.; sons and daughters-in-law Tony and Joan Gutzwiller, Lafayette, Mark and Sandy Gutzwiller, Batesville, John and Eileen Gutzwiller, Batesville, Ronald and Sandra Gutzwiller, Kokomo, and David and Kelly Gutzwiller, Batesville; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by sisters Isabella Yeager, Catherine Orifici, Elizabeth Wenzel and Lorraine Gallo; and brothers Charles, Sylvester and Bernard Brunner.
Visitation is Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services follow at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Family Church, Oldenburg, with the Rev. David Kobak, OFM, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Louis Cemetery.
The family requests memorials to Hospice of Margaret Mary Community Hospital.
