Kenneth Lovins, 78, Versailles, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital, Madison.

Born Sept. 21, 1931, in Tribbey, Ky., he was the son of Henry and Sally (Haddix) Lovins. He married Agnes Steele May 21, 1960, and she preceded him in death July 5, 2008.

The Cedar Creek Community Church, Osgood Masonic Lodge and Heartland Classic Car Club member was Ripley County sheriff from 1978-86 and also served as deputy sheriff and Versailles Town marshal.

Survivors include one son: Steven Lovins, Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; four daughters: Theresa May, Versailles, Tina Lovins, Saint Cloud, Fla., Theresa Lovins, Wake Forest, N.C., and Cathy Sanders, Wendall, N.C.; one brother: Jim Lovins, Milan; six sisters: Harriet Cleeter, Lawrenceburg, Jean Wilson, New Marion, Juanita Yeomans and Dottie Wood, Versailles, Martha Smith, Ingalls, and Geneva Napier, Madison; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Charles and John Lovins; and one sister: Jeanette Lovins.

Visitation is Monday, Dec. 28, from 5-8 p.m. with Masonic services at 8 p.m., and the funeral officiated by the Revs. Garland Rudd and Tom Holt is Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles. Burial is at New Marion Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Osgood Masonic Lodge, New Marion Cemetery or Cedar Creek Church in care of the funeral home.
