Eileen A. Salatin, 92, Morris, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at The Waters of Batesville.
Born March 15, 1917, in Ripley County, she was the daughter of Harry and Frances (Risselman) Ertel. She married Harold Salatin July 11, 1936, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Morris.
The St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and its ladies sodality member was a devoted longtime employee there, responsible for the upkeep of Schad Hall and the church. The outstanding cook took care of making meals for wedding receptions at the hall. Her sons teased her about having to cross the tracks to find her or driving directly to the church if they wanted her since she spent most of her time there. The Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary member also enjoyed watching “Days of Our Lives,” “Judge Judy,” NASCAR races and Indianapolis Colts games on TV.
Survivors include five sons: Roy, Gilbert, Glenn, Dennis and Gregory Salatin, Batesville; two sisters: Viola Grossman, Batesville, and Phyllis Moeller, Hamilton, Ohio; three brothers: Herschel Ertel, Cedar Grove, Daniel Ertel, Batesville, and Mark Ertel, Oldenburg; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son: Larry Salatin; and two brothers: Harry Ertel and Julius Schomber.
Visitation is Saturday, Dec. 26, from 9-10:30 a.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, followed by the 11 a.m. funeral officiated by the Rev. Pascal Nduka at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Roof Fund or The Waters of Batesville Activity Fund.
