Alban D. Prickel, 89, Morris, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at The Waters of Batesville.
The son of the late John and Rose (Roell) Prickel was born Jan. 10, 1920, in Ripley County. He married Coletta (Bedel) Prickel Aug. 6, 1947, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Hamburg.
The U.S. Army World War II medic earned three Bronze Stars. The Batesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3183 member was a farmer and longtime Batesville and Sunman-Dearborn school bus driver. The active St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Morris, member served on the parish council, was the Labor Day picnic and bingo chairperson and oversaw the heat barrels for its live Nativity. The Atlanta Braves baseball fan tolerated the Cincinnati Reds, but hated the New York Yankees. Prickel enjoyed gardening, sharing his harvest with family and friends. He would regularly stop by the barber shop and VFW to discuss hot topics.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter: Ruth Ann Gehring, Oldenburg; three sons: Raymond Prickel, Sunman, and Joseph and Steve Prickel, Morris; one sister: Rita Stahley, Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He also was preceded in death by five brothers: Cletus, David, Max, Omer and Ived Prickel.
Visitation is Thursday, Nov. 19, from a 4 p.m. rosary service until 7 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home. The Rev. Frank Eckstein will officiate the 10 a.m. funeral Friday, Nov. 20, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial is at the church cemetery with military rites conducted by Batesville VFW and Prell-Bland American Legion posts.
