John W. Nobbe, 81

John W. Nobbe, 81, Batesville, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at home.

Born Aug. 20, 1928, in Batesville, he was the son of the late William and Alvina (Dwenger) Nobbe. On Aug. 23, 1950, in Rushville, he married Alice (Yager) Nobbe, who survives.

The Holy Family Catholic Church, Batesville Knights of Columbus Council 1461 and Oldenburg Conservation Club member was a Blue Flame LP Gas route driver for 30 years before retiring. The avid Batesville sports fan coached his church’s Little League for many years. Nobbe loved to eat homemade meals and pies and enjoyed working on his farm, riding on his tractor, bowling and playing 500 and Solo.

Survivors also include three daughters: Ruth Ann Starost, Oldenburg, and Marjorie Suding and Bernice Rosemeyer, Sunman; five sons: Roy Nobbe, Greensburg, Arthur, Frank and Andrew Nobbe, Batesville, and Bernard Nobbe, Sunman; two brothers: Ambrose Nobbe, Batesville, and James Nobbe, Greensburg; two sisters: Lucille Effinger, Batesville, and Eileen Moorman, Millhousen; 27 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers: Richard, Raymond and Harold Nobbe; one sister: Rosemary Koors; and a grandson: Jason Starost.

Visitation is Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 4-8 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home. The Rev. David Kobak, OFM, will officiate the 10 a.m. funeral Thursday, Oct. 29, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial is at the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Holy Family Cemetery Fund or Oldenburg Boys and Girls Little League.
