Doris M. Doll, 78, Batesville, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at St. Andrews Health Campus.
Born Feb. 8, 1934, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of Anna (Brandes) and Valentine Simmermeyer. She married Alois Doll April 28, 1956, at St. Mary’s of the Rock Catholic Church, St. Mary’s.
The homemaker was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, St. Anne’s Ladies Sodality, Morris Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a past president of the National Coalition of Catholic Women.
Doris had many interests that kept her busy. An avid card player, she liked to play 500. She also did quite a bit of cross-stitching, crocheting and quilting. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and was proud of the roses she raised in front of the house. Her family talked about what an excellent baker she was and how good her lemon meringue pie, fudge and cookies were. They did, however, tease her about her cooking. “If she made a batch of chili, she made enough that we’d eat it for five days straight.”
Doris liked working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, watching her birds from the kitchen and soap operas. She didn’t like watching sports, flying or boating. Having her grandchildren and great-children around was something she treasured, but there seems to be some debate among the kids as to who was the favorite child.
She is survived by her husband; daughters and sons-in-law Deborah and Dave “Bluegill” Higham, Morris, and Karen and Gary Bedel, Enochsburg; sons and daughters-in-law Jerome “Jake” and Carolyn Doll, St. Mary’s, Randall and Donna Doll and Dan and Mary Lou Doll, Sunman, David “Mick” Doll, St. Mary’s, and Kurt and Ramona Doll, Alan and Ce Ce Doll, Eric and Gina Doll, Sunman; sisters Jackie Armbruster, Aurora, Melly Allgeier, Greensburg; Rosie Weisenbach, Morris, and Martha Simmermeyer and Barb Lecher, St. Mary’s; brother Frank Simmermeyer, St. Mary’s; daughter-in-law Wanda Alig; 32 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
