Frieda Augusta Jessup, 92, Belleville, Ill., formerly of Batesville, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Born June 23, 1917, in Bruning, Neb., she was the daughter of the late Sherman and Louise (Johnson) Schoenholz. On Sept. 14, 1947, there she married Donald Jessup, who preceded her in death July 3, 2000.
The St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Batesville, and its altar guild member helped at church dinners and rummage sales. She loved cooking for her family and was known for her homemade noodles and cinnamon rolls. The Bruning Air Force Base, Neb., post exchange employee and Margaret Mary Community Hospital cook was an avid reader who enjoyed embroidery work.
In 2004, Jessup moved from Sunman to Illinois to be near two daughters: Pamala Wilson, Creal Springs, and Cheryle Pierson, Fairview Heights. Also surviving are two sons: David Jessup, Fishers, and Steven Jessup, New Castle; a sister: Velma Haugens, Toluca, Ill.; four grandchildren: Shannon Landis, Aaron and Emily Jessup and Justin Pierson; three great-grandchildren: Forrest and Lauren Landis and Faith Pierson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by an infant twin: Bertha Schoenholz; a sister: Fern Schoenholz; and a brother: Glenn Schoenholz.
Visitation is Saturday, March 20, from 10-11 a.m. followed by the funeral officiated by the Rev. Jill Kepler Campbell at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Burial is at the church cemetery.
