-- — David Michael Galle, Columbus, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at the age of 47 after a brief illness. 

A native of Oldenburg, Dave was born Nov. 16, 1964, to Rosemary (Fette) and Eugene Galle. A man of incredible faith, the manner in which Dave lived his life set an example for many. An All-American basketball player, Dave graduated from DePauw University in 1987 with a degree in economics and management and earned his MBA degree from Northwestern University in 1991. He was also inducted into DePauw’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.

The longtime Columbus resident worked as a manager and vice president for Arvin Industries, Arvin Sango, ArvinMeritor and Enkei America for over 20 years. Most recently, he served as the executive director of the Community Education Coalition, Columbus. Active in many service ventures, Dave was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and a past chairman and board member of both the Bartholomew County United Way and Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce.

He also was a member of the Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus Business School Advisory Council, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. Business Advisory Council and served as a board member of both the Community Education Coalition and Mill Race Services.

Dave also taught for IUPUC as adjunct faculty in operations management and volunteered as a basketball and baseball coach, mentoring many youth of Bartholomew County. 

Any spare time that Dave had revolved around his family.  One of eight children and an uncle to 34 nieces and nephews, he cherished each and every moment spent with them. 

His siblings include  Sandy (Dave) Rohde, Aurora, Ill., Cindy (Bill) Wanstrath, Batesville, John Galle, Indianapolis, Michael (Ann) Galle, Bellbrooke, Ohio, Steve (Maureen) Galle, Rochester, Mich., Rick (Tina) Galle, Carmel, and Ron (Mandy) Galle, Carmel. 

He is also survived by his wife of 22 years, Jamie (Morris) Galle; and his three beloved children:  Luke, Megan and Alex. He will be sadly missed and happily remembered by many friends and other family members.

Visitation will take place at Myers-Reed Chapel, Columbus, from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church Saturday, Sept. 1, at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family will kindly accept donations to the David Galle Memorial Fund, Fifth Third Bank, to benefit the postsecondary education of Dave’s children.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.myers-reed.com.
