Geneva L. Gartenman, 78

— Geneva L. Gartenman, 78, Brookville, died in Oxford, Ohio, Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013.  

The daughter of Clifford Heeb and Ruby Gesell was born April 20, 1934, in Franklin County.

She married Alvin C. Gartenman Sr. Sept. 4, 1955, at St. John Evangelical Church, Penntown.  Geneva retired from Margaret Mary Community Hospital, where she worked for many years as a nurse. Her hobbies were going to flea markets and listening to bluegrass music.  She was a longtime Order of the Eastern Star member.  

Survivors include one daughter, Carolynn (husband Michael) Blum, Florence, Ky.; three sons, Larry (wife Pam) Gartenman, Milan, Gary (wife Susan) Gartenman, Dayton, Ohio, and Chuck (wife Janice) Gartenman, Brookville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Arlene Koester, Richmond; two brothers, Leslie Gesell, Columbia, Md., and Glenn Gesell, Brookville.

In addition to her husband, parents and stepfather Arnold Gesell, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne.  

Visitation for Geneva’s friends and family will be Thursday, Jan. 24, from 9-11 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home, Brookville. Then Dr. Harold Shackelford, pastor of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Klemmes Corner, will officiate the funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Brookville.  

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Franklin County Public Library Kids’ Corner or Franklin County Special Olympics. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.cookfuneral.com.
