Alona Jean Hafer, 65

— Alona Jean Hafer, 65, Batesville, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at home.

Born Jan. 28, 1947, in Covington, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Laura Lee (Bailey) Massey. She graduated from Holms High School there in 1965.

For many years, Alona was the assistant to the Batesville clerk-treasurer and then later worked at the former Woodwinds, Batesville.

Alona will be remembered as a good-hearted person for her love of her family and friends and also animals, especially her pets. She loved to garden and be outdoors. She liked to travel and went to England twice.

Alona married Richard Hafer in Covington Aug. 7, 1965, and he preceded her in death Aug. 24, 1996.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Richard Crowe, Batesville; her son, Jeff Hafer, Batesville; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and tons of friends.

She was also preceded in death by a half brother, Fred Massey.

Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 6, from 2-4 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Bill Vines officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the Hansen Center, which was very good to Alona.
