Dorothy L. Doll, 96

— Dorothy L. Doll, 96, Oldenburg, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at her home.

Born Oct. 22, 1916, in Cincinnati, she was the daughter of Catherine (Price) and Clement Suttman.  She married Anthony Doll Sept. 4, 1937, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Oldenburg, and he preceded her in death Oct. 9, 1983.

Dorothy was owner of The Villa Orchard 25 years before her family took it over in 1995. She also was a cook at Hillcrest Country Club for 15 years and worked in housekeeping at the Hillenbrand Industries corporate office for 15 years. The Holy Family Catholic Church member was also a former member of the Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary No. 220.

Dorothy’s interests were as varied as they were many. A big fan of soap operas, “Days of our Lives” and “All my Children” were among her favorites.  Other TV programs she liked were “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Golden Girls” and she was a bit of a sports fanatic. Football, basketball and golf were her preferences.

Her family talked about her baking and cooking abilities, which were quite good.  Her apple pie was outstanding and they also remember her potato soup and potato pancakes.  Sunday’s meals were homemade noodles and fried chicken.  Dorothy herself was a sweets freak. She loved desserts and sweets.  Many times when she would eat out, she ordered a light meal so as to save room for dessert. That meal often consisted of fish and she would order rainbow trout whenever she would see it on the menu.

She is survived by daughters and son-in-laws Mary Ellen and Leonard Grossman, Lawrenceburg, Julie and John Eckstein, Cathy Schene and Donna Doll, Oldenburg; son and daughter-in-law George and Patty Doll, Oldenburg; 26 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Thomas; brothers Father Cletus Suttman, Aloysius Suttman and Father Donald Suttman; and one granddaughter.

Visitation is Thursday, Jan. 3, from 4-7 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home.  Funeral services are Friday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. David Kobak, OFM, officiating.  The burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family requests memorials to Oldenburg Academy or the Holy Family Church Capital Improvement Fund.
