Elvira “Vera” Moorman, 91

— Elvira “Vera” Moorman, 91, Brookville, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Margaret Mary Community Hospital.

She was born Nov. 15, 1921, in Batesville to Bernard and Cecilia (Siefert) Fledderman.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary past president also was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Brookville, and the American Legion auxiliary. She had previously worked at Sperry Rubber and Plastics, Brookville, and retired from Hillenbrand Industries, Batesville. Her hobbies included gardening, quilting, crocheting, reading and visiting casinos as they traveled across the United States.

Survivors include her children: Gerald (Sharon) Forthofer, Rockwell, N.C., Marilyn (Rodney) Pence and Michael (Donna) Forthofer, Brookville, Beverly (Earl) Archer, Somerset, Ky., Diana (Dan) Trabel, Sunman, and Karen (George) Dumais, Van Nuys, Calif.; two stepchildren: Don and Jan Pelsor, Tipp City, Ohio, and Glen and Mary Moorman, Hamilton, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters: Edna (Robert) Lamppert, Morris, and Marie (Robert) Connolly, Dover; and a companion of many years: Stanley Kocher, Brookville.

She was preceded in death by her husbands: Jerome Forthofer and Frank Moorman; four brothers: Raymond, Walter, Urban and Victor Fledderman; three sisters: Ethel Obermeyer, Marcella (Bruns) Becker and Rita Obermeyer; one step-grandchild: Amanda Pelsor; and a granddaughter-in-law: Tonya (Rasnick) Pence.

Visitation will be at Cook Funeral Home, Brookville, Saturday, Jan. 19, from 9-11:30 a.m. Then the Rev. Sean Danda will officiate the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael Catholic Church at noon. Burial will follow in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Franklin County Public Library District, Franklin County EMS or church.
