-- — Herbert Eckstein, 81, Sunman, passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at his home.
The son of Anthony and Cora (Meierle) Eckstein was born Dec. 20, 1930, in Batesville.
Herbert married Marceda Lambert June 30, 1956, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Sunman. He served his country proudly as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and was a lifelong farm machinery mechanic.
Herbert loved to fish in his spare time and was a member of the St. Nicholas Catholic Church Men’s Sodality and Sunman American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years; sons Kevin (Debbie) Eckstein, Cincinnati, Philip (Rebecca) Eckstein, Sunman, Nick (Tina) Eckstein and Larry (Mary) Eckstein, Osgood; daughter Donna (Steve) Delap, Milan; six grandchildren: Adam and Justin Eckstein, Amber and Sara Eckstein, Stefanie Crawford and Randi Delap; brothers Leonard and Mark Eckstein, Batesville.
Besides his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by brothers Robert “Happy,” Paul and George Eckstein; sisters Francie Kohlman, Helen Melvin and Leona Sarringhaus.
On Monday, Aug. 20, a rosary service will be held at 3:30 p.m., and friends may visit with Herbert’s family from 4-8 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, Sunman. The funeral Mass officiated by Father Frank Eckstein will be held Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Sunman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
