Lady Eagles keep winning

The No. 4 ranked Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles used tough defense and a balanced scoring attack to knock off the Switzerland County Lady Pacers 59-36 in an Ohio River Valley Conference game in Osgood.

The Lady Eagles transition game enabled them to jump out to a 17-12 first quarter lead. Erika Simon and Emily Einhaus combined for 13 of those first period points.

Switzerland County standout Ashley Chase carried the Lady Pacers early. Consistent pressure from the Lady Eagles shut down the rest of the Switzerland County team and JCD led 33-23 at the half, according to coach Scott Smith.

Jac-Cen-Del turned up the defense in the second half and held the visitors to four points in the third period, while scoring 13 themselves.

The Lady Eagles held Switzerland County to only two field goals in the second half and none by Chase.  Chase ended the game with19 points on 5-of-19 shooting.

The Lady Eagles again showed balanced scoring and unselfishness in chalking up their 13th win of the season, according Smith.  Emily Einhaus and Janelle Hardesty each scored 12 points followed closely by Abby Lauber's 10.  Erika Simon added nine points and Abby Rohlfing added five to go with her team high seven rebounds.

“We got great defensive efforts from the kids tonight,” Smith commented. “Especially Alisha Lord and Kiersten Young, and got great performances from our bench (17 points).”

Over the last two games, Janelle Hardesty has moved into sole position of second place on the Eagle All-Time scoring list behind Rita Foster with 1,084 points.

Jac-Cen-Del’s record now stands at 13-2.
