Four hurt in two crashes

Two accidents with injuries occurred in Ripley County in just over six hours Nov. 14.

At about 5:12 a.m., a 2008 Ford car driven by Mathew Werner, 21, Metamora, left State Road 229 at County Road 1250 North for an unknown reason and flipped, reported Ripley County Sheriff Thomas Grills.

“The vehicle came to rest inverted, causing minor injuries to the driver.” Sgt. Marvin Smith and Deputy Ryan McKittrick, the investigating officers, were assisted at the scene by Batesville police and firefighters, Batesville EMS 10 and Ripley County Paramedics. The accident is still under investigation.

At about 11:56 a.m., there was a two-vehicle crash at Lookout at the intersection of state roads 129 and 48.

Nita Phillippe, 74, Delaware, operating a 1998 Buick car, was turning west on 48 and failed to yield the right of way to a southbound vehicle being driven by Barbara Gunselman, 51, Batesville. Her car, a 1994 Ford, struck Phillippe almost head-on, causing injuries to both drivers and the passenger in Phillippe's vehicle, Holly Peters, 35, Vevay, the sheriff said.

All three were transported to Margaret Mary Community Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The crash is currently under investigation by Deputy Jason Dickerson and Cpl. Rob Bradley, who were assisted at the scene by Batesville and Delaware firefighters, Batesville EMS 10 and Ripley County Paramedics.
