An employee at the Shell gas station near Cross County Plaza reported an armed robbery during a 911 call at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3.
“Two men entered the Shell. One brandished a handgun, demanding money and left with an undetermined amount,” reported Batesville Maj. Jeff Thielking. The suspects then headed west on I-74 in a small dark-colored vehicle, according to the Batesville Police Department news release.
Decatur County police officers located the vehicle northbound on State Road 3 and stopped it just north of Greensburg, Thielking said. “Officers were involved in an exchange of gunfire. One suspect was injured and one is in custody,” he added.
Upon investigation, officers determined the vehicle’s passenger was not involved in the robbery and he was released.
Batesville police are investigating the gas station incident. Indiana State Police are looking into the officer-involved shooting.
