“There’s something for everybody” at the Franklin County Antique Machinery Show Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 24-27, says Mike Wilson, Franklin County Antique Machinery Club director.
The event, held at Franklin County Fair-grounds, Brookville, has been presented annually since 1995. Gates open around 6 a.m. each day, and activities continue late in the evening, 10 or 11 p.m., depending on what special shows are scheduled, he notes.
Even though the director doesn’t know the exact number of antique farm equipment pieces that will be on display, he says, “We’re full .... (and) this year, we have Chapter 7 of the International Harvester collectors” being featured.
In addition, “We always have a big crowd, especially on Saturday .... It doesn’t look like that many because it’s spread out, but the parking lot is always overflowing.
“Even if you’re not a farmer, if you’re a city person, there are many things to do .... watching all the field activities, thrashing, chopping corn for the portable silo, shredding corn and we’ll be plowing. If the weather is fit, we’ll use the steam engine plow.” There will also be saw mill demonstrations.
“The barn is full of crafts, making brooms, soap, pottery .... There’s a petting zoo .... all kinds of kids’ games and a huge flea market. This is the first year we’ve sold out of flea market spots.”
Antique tractor pulls are set for 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and a horse pull begins at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Grocery bingo is a popular game. “A guy and his wife can come, and he can dump her off at the bingo,” while he looks at the antiques. “That’s a good way to make a marriage last,” Wilson stresses.
He is looking forward to the spark show on Saturday, where a steam engine, Baker fan and saw dust are used. “It looks like the Fourth of July.”
The four-day event is “just a good time for everybody .... I’d like everyone to come and enjoy themselves,” he reveals.
Admission is $3 per person, and children under 12 get in free.
