Oldenburg town council takes care of business

-- —

The dedication of the new veterans’ memorial was one of the topics discussed at the July 9 Oldenburg Town Council meeting.

Veterans are encouraged to attend the ceremony, which will kick off at 2 p.m. during Freudenfest Saturday, July 21, in front of the town hall on Pearl Street, reports member Denny Moeller. “We hope to have a lot of people gathering for the event,” which is expected to last 20-25 minutes.

Members will have a big yellow stripe painted down the middle of Indiana Avenue, which is a short section of road between Water Street and St. Mary’s Road going west out of town. “There have been some close calls in that area” because motorists often take the curve quickly and don’t stay on their side of the road.

There were also some complaints from citizens concerning rental properties in town, Moeller revealed.

The buildings “are looking very shabby, and the people who live there have a bunch of trash on the street ... One is right across from the Brau Haus.

“We’d like to keep the town cleaned up, and we as a town board are going to take a look at it,” he noted. They may write letters to the property owners.
