Woman alleges abduction

GREENSBURG — A Decatur County woman claims she was abducted and sexually assaulted by two men in a black pickup truck Monday night, Sept. 24.

According to a press release from the Greensburg Police Department, an 18-year-old told deputies of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department she was forced into a truck by two male suspects shortly after 10 p.m. Monday, and driven north on State Road 3 from her location near Freeland Road.

The victim told police she was sexually assaulted during the drive, then dropped off by the alleged assailants near County Road 700 North and State Road 3.

Last week, a 13-year-old Greensburg girl told police she was picked up by two men in a black truck on her way to school in an alley near Lincoln Street. The victim described the vehicle as a “shiny black Dodge truck with loud exhaust.”

The girl claimed the men touched her inappropriately outside of her clothing as she was driven around before being dropped off at the same location at which she was abducted.

Police are presently investigating both cases and have yet to determine if there is any connection.

The first victim described her assailants as being two men, approximately in their 50s. One man was tall and bald with a mustache; the other was described as having brownish, graying hair with “a big stomach.”

The second victim offered a similar account and description of the alleged perpetrators.

GPD Detective William Meyerrose, in charge of the local investigation, spoke with the Daily News Tuesday afternoon and stated his department is working in conjunction with neighboring law enforcement offices in comparing notes and establishing leads in the case.

A police sketch of one of the alleged perpetrators was created by the Shelbyville Police Department based on a description provided to them by a woman involved in the attempt of a similar crime in that community.

Meyerrose stressed there may not be a connection among any of the incidents, and he's hoping Decatur County residents can assist with the case.

"At this point, we're asking for the public's help in getting this message out," said the detective.

He also noted the suspects' truck is a "true two-door" black Dodge. It does not have an extended cab.

When asked if the matter should be considered a public safety issue, Meyerrose noted the incidents appear to be isolated.

"The public still needs to be aware of their surroundings," he elaborated. "Know what's going on around you and who's around you."

Law enforcement officers are requesting anyone with information contact the GPD’s CID Unit at 812-663-3131.
