Man arrested for burglary

BATESVILLE — A Cincinnati man has been arrested in connection with a residential burglary, according to Batesville police Chief Stan Holt.

About 5 p.m. Nov. 19, officers responded to a White Oak Court residence that had been burglarized.  The homeowner reported several items stolen, including jewelry and coins.  

The victim’s neighbor told investigators she observed a male subject entering the residence and provided them with information that eventually led to an arrest.  

On Nov. 20, Franklin County Chief Deputy Doug Baker and Batesville Police Department Detective Sgt. Mike Benjamin stopped a vehicle on Interstate 74 that was suspected of being used in the crime. The vehicle’s passenger Aaron Gorth, 26, Cincinnati, was arrested for residential burglary, a Class B felony, and theft, a Class D felony. Officers located the stolen items in the vehicle.

Information acquired during the investigation is being forwarded to Ripley County prosecutor Ric Hertel to review for formal charges.

Gorth is being held in the Ripley County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
