BATESVILLE — After tabling a decision Sept. 10 on whether to accept ownership of a museum building from the Batesville Area Historical Society, Batesville Board of Works members unanimously agreed to that Oct. 8.
BAHS member Tim Dietz pointed out last month, “We think the artifacts belong to ... Batesville. Our current active members are aging. We are concerned about how the society will continue in the future.”
BAHS members will continue holding annual fundraisers to maintain the facility and volunteers will staff it.
In addition, there is no mortgage and BAHS has $26,000 in cash.
An endowment operating fund of just over $20,000 provides regular operating funds. The land and building are valued at $250,000, he noted.
BBW members also agreed to three pay requests: $8,000 to Mills Fence Co. for the baseball/softball complex; $21,438 to Paul H. Rohe Co. for the Pohlman Street pedestrian trails first phase; and $118,838 to Paul H. Rohe Co. for the East Pearl Street reconfiguration.
