Batesville Eagles will host a steak dinner Friday, July 10, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Property Taxes Due

Property taxes in Ripley and Franklin counties will be collected twice in 2009, by July 10 and Nov. 10. The treasurer’s office in the Versailles courthouse will be open extended hours July 6-10 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Ripley County info: 812-689-6352. Franklin County info: 765-647-5121.

SEI Day at the Reds

The Babe Ruth and Cal Ripkin leagues are selling discounted tickets until Friday, July 10, for the Cincinnati Reds vs Milwaukee Brewers game for Southeastern Indiana Day Sunday, July 19, at 1:15 p.m. to raise funds for the new baseball/softball complex. BAHS Garage Sale

SummerFest

SummerFest will liven up Batesville’s Village Green July 10-11. Disc jockey Mark Volz will play music both days at 4 p.m. Friday’s schedule: Batesville Music Boosters concession stand, 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.; fish fry and beer garden opens, pie auction, 5 p.m.; battle of the bands, 7-11 p.m. Saturday’s schedule: smoked pork chop dinners, 5 p.m.; The Late Show classic rock band, 8-11 p.m.

Hoosier Open

The Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse Association Indiana Chapter Hoosier Open is at the Ripley County Fairgrounds Park, Osgood, July 10-12. Friday, 6 p.m., gaming classes, including costume and mystery; Saturday, 9 a.m., riding classes; 6 p.m., grand champions of performance and halter, then extreme cowboy competition. Youth Football Registration

Registration for the Batesville Youth Football League is Saturday, July 11, from 9 a.m. to noon at Southeastern Indiana YMCA.

CPR Class

Margaret Mary Community Hospital holds a basic CPR class the second Saturday of each month, including July 11, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the administrative conference room. Cost: $15. Registration required: 933-5115.

Car Wash

There will be a freewill offering car wash Saturday, July 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the McDonald’s parking lot. All proceeds go toward Joe Fortkamp’s Eagle Scout project. Also, July 18.

Morris Firemen’s Festival

The Morris Firemen’s Festival is Saturday, July 11, on St. Anthony Church grounds, Morris. Whole chicken carryouts and games begin at 3 p.m.; chicken and roast beef dinners from 4 to 8; kiddie tractor pull at 6 with registration at 5:30. D.J. music, raffles, refreshments.

Vineyard Community Church Celebration

Batesville Vineyard Community Church is holding their annual service/celebration at Liberty Park Sunday, July 12, at 10:45 a.m. followed by a free lunch and games.

Ripley County Historical Society

The Ripley County Historical Society will meet Sunday, July 12, at 2 p.m. at the Archive Library on the west side of Courthouse Square, Versailles. Susan Walters will present a Civil War program.

Studio Go! VBS

Saturday, July 18

Large Item Pickup

On Saturday, July 18, the City of Batesville offers curbside pickup of large items from residents’ homes starting at 5 a.m. Acceptable items include old clothing; furniture, bedsprings and mattresses; old rugs and carpet pieces; rubber hose; appliances; wood, bundled 4 feet or shorter, 75 pounds maximum; insulation; cans and buckets, totally cleaned and dry; paint cans (must be dried paint). Refrigerators, air-conditioning units and freezers also will be taken if they have stickers showing that the chlorofluorocarbons were removed. Info: 933-6100.

Freudenfest Breakfast

Blood Drive

Hoxworth Blood Center is hosting a blood drive during the Ripley County Fair Tuesday, July 21, from 2 to 8 p.m. Donors must be at least 17 (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, must provide photo identification and should eat a good meal prior to donating.
