BHS opens with wins on court

Constant defensive pressure and some timely field goals helped propel the Batesville Lady Bulldogs to their second win of the season in as many times to the court.

The BHS varsity basketball team traveled to Lawrenceburg Saturday night and left with a 67-46 victory over their Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference counterparts.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a quick lead in their first game of the season. A 3-pointer by Emily Rennekamp put Lawrenceburg out in front 7-2.

In what proved to be a quarter of offensive spurts, the Lady Bulldogs bounced back to score the next 10 points and take a 12-7 lead near the three minute mark.

Next, the Lady Tigers scored the final six points of the quarter to take a 13-12 into the first break.

The third and fourth quarters were much the same as the second. The BHS lead it a high of 19 points in the third quarter and then 25 in the fourth.

The junior varsity team posted a 38-23 victory over the Lady Tigers.

A four point halftime lead was extended to 13 by the end of the third quarter before resting at 15 when the final horn sounded.

Lawson Sitterding was the only player to score in double figures with a team-high 15 points. Becca Wintz and Fawn Ryan each added nine points in the victory.

Both teams improved to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the conference with the victory.
