The Oldenburg Academy volleyball team got off to a 2-0 start with wins over Edinburgh and Switzerland County.
The Lady Twisters defeated Edinburgh by the scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-12.
“The girls started a little slow at the beginning, but quickly gathered the momentum they finished las season with and got the job done,” OA head coach Amber Lecher commented.
Amanda Dickman picked up where she left off last season as a team leader. The senior standout recorded 12 service points and led the attack at the net with seven kills, six blocks and one dink.
Jill Knueven was second on the team with seven service points, three blocks and two kills.
The win over Switzerland County came by the scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-20.
Dickman was again the key contributor to the victory, but the coach credited the entire team with a “hard-fought” victory. “The girls stayed on their toes tonight,” she added.
Dickman racked up 19 service points, 14 kills and three blocks to set the pace. Catherine Fiutem served 13 points and tallied a team-high 12 assists.
Junior Varsity
The Oldenburg Academy junior varsity volleyball team opened the season with a tough loss to Edinburgh by the scores of 23-25 and 24-25.
“Playing the first game with eight freshmen and one sophomore was a learning and growing experience,” varsity head coach Amber Lecher commented. “The girls came off the court with a new knowledge and respect for high school volleyball.”
Ashley Gramman had eight service points and four assists to help lead the Lady Twisters.
Oldenburg bounced back to win their first match of the season two nights later.
The Lady Twisters knocked off Switzerland County 25-20 and 25-17.
Alexa Tindall had a solid night serving with 11 points, including six aces.
Katie Wanstrath added seven points, while Brenna Sarringhaus had two kills and a block for the Lady Twisters.
