Batesville Boy Scout leader Roman “Bucky” Nobbe, Batesville, received the Silver Beaver Award, Boy Scouts’ highest honor distributed at the council level, at a Hoosier Trails Council gala April 5 at The Pines, Seymour.
For many years, Nobbe has been involved in Scouting, holding positions such as merit badge counselor. He was named Den Leader of the Year in 1999 and received the District Award of Merit in 2001. “His dedication as a leader, volunteer, mentor and trainer exemplifies the values and mission of the Boy Scouts of America,” said marketing director Cindy Miller.
Nobbe is also involved in the community with the Knights of St. John and Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce, and as a Holy Family Catholic Church, Oldenburg, eucharistic minister.
Officials at the council, which serves 18 counties in central Indiana, including Ripley, also recognized 2008 Eagle Scouts and quality districts and handed out Veteran Awards, District Awards of Merit and Woodbadge awards. The gala’s purpose was to bring the entire council together to celebrate the successes and honors that Scouts and volunteers achieved throughout the year.
Currently, there are over 450 registered members of the Hoosier Trails Council in Ripley County. The Boy Scouts of America Hoosier Trails Council teaches character, citizenship and personal values through its more than 3,000 volunteers to over 11,000 youth each year.
