BATESVILLE —
Jan Santerre, senior vice president of lean at Hillenbrand, was recently recognized by The Manufacturing Institute, Deloitte, University of Phoenix and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers with a Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Award for her excellence and leadership in manufacturing, reports Chris Lowery, Hillenbrand Inc. public policy and engagement director.
She joins 121 other honorees from across the nation, representing all levels of manufacturing from the factory floor to the C Suite.
Santerre was recruited by Ken Camp, Hillenbrand’s chief executive officer in 2008 to use her experience to build upon the excellent tradition of lean thinking at Batesville Casket Co. and extend it throughout the enterprise and into acquired business platforms and operating companies.
“After a successful career in automobile manufacturing at GM/Delphi and a series of senior executive roles at Parker Hannifin, we recruited Jan to lead Hillenbrand’s Lean Business development worldwide,” said Camp. “Jan is a very experienced senior executive who is highly respected throughout industry and in Hillenbrand’s growing global enterprise.”
The STEP Awards are part of the larger STEP Ahead initiative to examine and promote the role of women in the manufacturing industry through recognition, research and best practices for attracting, advancing and retaining strong female talent.
On Feb. 5, the award recipients were recognized at a reception in Washington, D.C.
