Law firm opens in Brookville

BATESVILLE — John Worth and Paul Barada Jr. have opened a new office of their law firm, Worth and Barada LLP, at 444 Main St., Brookville. Both have had extensive legal careers in southeastern Indiana. 

Worth and his wife Gay reside on their farm in northwestern Franklin County.  He serves as Franklin County attorney, and she is a Franklin County Public Library District board member. The Worths also operate a log home bed and breakfast in the county.

Worth began his practice of law in 1970 in Rushville and the surrounding counties. He is a past recipient of the coveted Trial Lawyer of the Year Award.  He has held various positions in state government under Govs. Ed Whitcomb and Otis Bowen, serving as corporation counsel for the secretary of state's office, Industrial Board member and as a clerk under Judge Cooper of the Indiana Court of Appeals.

Currently, he serves as the Rush County public defender's council commissioner and attorney for Rush County Schools, where he successfully defended the school corporation's drug testing policy before the U.S. Supreme Court. He recently served as the United Methodist Church Rushville District general counsel and on the South Indiana Methodist Foundation board of trustees. 

Prior to joining this practice, Barada served three terms as the elected Rush County prosecuting attorney, handling all major felony prosecutions and juvenile cases. 

He has taught at Indiana University, Bloomington, from which both he and Worth graduated.  While at IU, Barada also studied at the London School of Economics, London.
