Access to be expanded in the area

Enhanced Telecommunications Corp. gained one of 22 broadband infrastructure projects awarded to give rural residents access to improved economic and educational opportunities, announced Tom Vilsack, U.S. Department of Agriculture director, March 4.

Funding for the wireless broadband project is being provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's Broadband Initiatives Program, according to ETC marketing manager Anita Fledderman.

“We are excited to be one of the recipients of the Broadband Initiatives Program,” says Chad Miles, ETC president and chief executive officer.

“This award enables us to provide rural counties in Indiana the opportunity to realize the benefits of a broadband connection.”

Fledderman adds, “Utilizing 700 MHz spectrum, ETC's award will allow it to build a wireless access solution supported by a fiber optic infrastructure for Decatur, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott and Switzerland counties in Indiana.

The half-grant, half-loan award totaling $11.39 million will allow ETC to provide interactive two-way broadband and communication services and will be designed with enough capacity to handle any future applications.”
