-- — Cecil Ison, owner of Ison’s Family Pizza, Batesville, competed in the International Pizza Challenge in Las Vegas in early March. He finished in third place in the Mid-America Division, and in 12th place overall in the traditional category. In the traditional pizza competition, the competitors were allowed only two toppings and had to follow special guidelines. Ison reported he used a favorite local combination, pepperoni and bacon. The Batesville resident also competed in the nontraditional challenge and came in seventh in the Mid-America Division and 20th overall. In that competition, there were no rules on toppings or crusts. Ison baked another local favorite, the BLT. He was attending the Pizza Expo in Las Vegas March 1-4. During the convention, the International Pizza Challenge was held in a Food Network-style environment with 67 worldwide challengers in each category.
